This isn't a good sign for the environment.

Previously, the only reason some less profitable bits of land weren't farmed is that it wasn't worthwhile to pay someone to go plant it and harvest it for such low yields.

With this tech, a farmer can now just program this machine to plough up vast swathes of Siberia and plant stuff 24/7, and if even a few percent grow it will have paid for the seeds and diesel.

The environmental cost is high for the little food gets grown.
