I think this makes sense.

Many courses focus on teaching the semantics without explaining how it works (or not giving much attention to how).

Result is many students come out capable of repeating more or less the same, but incapable of reusing those language constructs to build new solutions.

Too bad the post didn't spark a thorough discussion here.
