How do you learn a new language/framework/pattern?

I have a problem in mind I want to solve.

Then I start with reading the syntax, getting started and what not things so I roughly know where I can search for later when I tackle my problem.

I favor text or video transcripts. Video only does not work for me.

So I roughly get a holistic view of the tools I want to use and best practices, patterns and then dive into problem solving
