I flagged this, due to your inflammatory topic, which has nothing to do with the linked post. The linked post describes how Windows Phone developers can submit Mango-ready apps.
It has nothing to do with fragmentation and everything to do with preparing for the next major Windows Phone upgrade.
I feel your flag is unwarranted, and while the article doesn't use the word 'fragmentation', most likely due it it's negative connotation, what they describe is absolutely fragmentation [1].
Where do you see fragmentation? They're releasing a major new version of the Windows Phone OS. Microsoft and OEMs have committed to upgrading all current Windows Phones to Mango.
I was under the impression that launch devices would not be getting the Mango update.. This was a few months ago[1], but it seems to be a different story now..
That article doesn't seem to indicate fragmentation to me. It seems to indicate transition challenges as developers post 7.1 apps for devices that are still on 7.0.
It's been presumed, at least amongst those in the WP7 world, that all 7.0 devices would see the 7.1 upgrade, and I believe Microsoft even indicated such, but I can't find the proper link to cite.
I imagine iPhone/Android/WP phone owners will all experience similar OS upgrade lifespans.
Anyway, my issue with your submission is that you chose to editorialize something falsely.
It has nothing to do with fragmentation and everything to do with preparing for the next major Windows Phone upgrade.
