I've met similar thinking. In one company I was working for some time in a senior role, while being new there, I got scoffed for asking the non-senior developers of the team for information on some parts of how the software worked.
Maybe you went over somebodys head, or maybe rank played a part in this. Some people also want you to follor their way or the highway, unfortunately I've seen this many times in different software companies.
Probably in this kind of teams execution is what matters, not thinking for yourself.
