Gen Z are not digital natives, at least not in a tech savvy way. They might be able to type very quickly with a phone but they tend to not know technology.
The more gen z I met, the more I realize they are the worst prepared generation. Simple things like sending an email are unknown to a lot of them.
Agreed. Gen Z is to computers/internet the way millennials are to cars; while cars/computers are fundamental to their way of living they actually know less about them than the previous generation.
I think this is because once a technology has reached to point that everyone uses it, it also is at the point where it requires no skill or understanding to use. It's easier to have a mechanic fix your car and it's easier to buy a new phone/laptop when it performs poorly.
This is so wrong, it's hilarious. Some of you are completelY out of touch. Gen Z like most generations care about results to make life easier not the underlying tech. That's why there's a ton of knowledge sharing/data going around so people don't have to work as hard.
You're contradicting yourself. You say I'm wrong but then you just confirm they are tech illiterate despite using it more than ever.
That's worrisome. They take everything for granted. It should work because it's magic. And that leads them to, as you say, only expect results without being aware of any consequence.
What about privacy? Who cares? What's that? How do companies know about my stuff? And anyway, I dont have anything to hide.
And that is not only going to affect them but everyone.
Just imagine not being able to make something to eat because you don't care how, you only care about eating something, no matter where it comes from.
Privacy in this case is only an example. If you work with them you'll realize they are useless if anything goes slightly off rail. What now? The button doesn't work.
Every generation doesn't need the same skills and every generation complains that the next generation doesn't have the same skills they have. Somehow society keeps functioning.
"... the more I realize they are the worst prepared generation." Has been said about the next generation since the beginning of time.
I just encountered this first hand. I know someone who's just entering college and was asking how they go about saving a file in Microsoft Word! Up to this point in time, they had always used a school appointed Chromebook where they never even had to save things to their local computer :|
This is a good thing. There will be a smart kid who says "Why do I have to save a file, this should happen automatically and I shouldn't have to think about it" and they start a company and innovate on an inefficient process.
Gen Zers, roughly speaking, throw their hands up at the first sign of difficulty. If its not connected to bluetooth and working in minutes, its not working.
