[..]Exercism is an online, open-source, free coding platform that offers code practice and mentorship[3] on 50 different programming languages.[..]

Kinda annoying if sites have this non-informative character and don't even explain at all what they try to sell. I hope this is just temporay because of their upcoming launch.

They're launching the new version today. I submitted the link to HN because I'm excited about it when I checked there were I believe two minutes left of their countdown clock. Turns out I jumped the gun and they expect to be a few hours delayed.

That said, I've found Excercism in its previous incarnation a fantastic resource. Various programming languages had learning tracks of exercises grouped by level of difficulty, like koans. A volunteer mentor would follow your work and send reviews, finally okaying it or suggesting you put in more work. Then you could compare your answer with those of other members. Because there were so many languages involved and they had similar or sometime even identical exercises there was also a kind of Rosetta Stone effect -- ah, yeah, here's what a good Pythonic solution to this looks like, whereas in TypeScript it'd be more like that, in Clojure like this, in Elixir like that, and so on.

For those wondering: Exercism is a platform for learning how to code by solving problems. You work on your solution locally and then, if the builds passes all tests correctly, you submit it. I heard there is an option of mentoring bu I've never used it. Some of the problems are quite interesting and for me they're especially useful when I'm learning a new language as they support quite some of them, including some interesting new ones like Nim.

Do I need to guess what this is or what?

I have no idea what this is.

The front page does a very poor job of telling me at a glance what this is.

OK, site's up; check again and it should be clear imo~

Seems like the new site is not up yet.
