Will jailbreaking make a come back?

In regards to CSAM scanning, potential anti-trust issues, right to repair, etc. do the collective minds of HN think jailbreaking will become popular as it was in the early days of iOS? It would be nice to see some type of spin like Calyx for iPhone.

I want to believe but we have the PlayStation experience to see where that would go. Jailbroken devices could and probably would get locked out of much of what makes the iPhone experience nice. Just use an Android device with a customOS, its less of a headache.

Yes, I don't see much potential or a "de-appled" iPhone experience. With Apples tight control over hardware and software it would just be an endless cat and mouse game.

I would rather see efforts focussed on making open source Android and mobile Linux flavours better.

After the CSAM news there is a noticable uptick in HN discussion about calyx/lineage/pine/librem/etc. 2022 will be the year of the Linux Phone.
