I find this kind of writing troubling but perhaps for a different reason than many people. Writers draw on their experiences as well as previous readings to create new works. Every such work has a provenance that reflects its roots, sometimes imperceptably but at other times in ways that are obvious to every reader. Knowing these roots also helps readers understand the author's contribution, how it is different from things that came before.

What are the sources of GPT-3's writing? Clearly there were texts that expressed similar feelings, otherwise it would not be able to infer new ones. Is it really creative and if so how? Is this just a new kind of plagiarism? How would you know?
