Maybe we should build canals instead. It would solve several problems at once: 1) We could lay fiber in them 2) We could direct much needed tourism to neglected areas 3) It would give us an alternate transport option in case a bridge or two declines to cooperate with our no maintenance stance 4) I could have a Widebeam boat and go boating. That last one is the most important one, of course.

Most people prefer boating to trains. Using Airboats in shallow canals could probably really hit some wild speeds. Uber Airboats, anyone???
