Is there any institution that failed so hard and so quickly at what it was initially set out to do more than OpenAI? It's an absolute travesty.

Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere? USSR?

Depends on whether you count cases where stated goals were never seriously treated.

Isn't most of their research and code publicly available?

Their code isn’t available, no.

This is an announcement of an announcement, so typically doesn’t belong on HN. https://hn.algolia.com/?dateRange=all&page=0&prefix=true&que...

As for the good old “OpenAI is not open” complaints, you can use my ClosedAI extension which follows the footsteps of CloudToButt https://github.com/clopen/ClosedAI.

Very curious what could be the new thing given that they have already published the Codex paper.

Since reading code is significantly harder than writing code, I hope OpenAI's model allows users to infer a natural language explanation of a given snippet of code. This should be possible if it is a generative model.

They will probably offer Codex as another API for paid customers.

They already offer GPT-3 the same way.

If you google "OpenAI codex" the following description comes up, "OpenAI Codex translates natural language to code, as first seen in GitHub Copilot. Latest. Introducing Triton: Open-Source GPU". Though this appears to be missing from the actual page.

For me it appears to be at the bottom of the page on desktop[0]

Thank you Microsoft® O̶p̶e̶n̶ClosedAI™.

Can the FTC get OpenAI get them to remove "Open" from their name?
