The MicroFreak is also somewhat interesting regarding copyright and open-source: Generally, since circuits can't easily be protected, clones are very common in music electronics (with a wide range of opinions when and how it's "fair" to sell clones). The MicroFreak is somewhat based on designs by Mutable Instruments that are explicitly open-source (thus clear in that regard, although not everyone necessarily agreed on the "fair" part), but at launch Arturia went over the line and claimed it was an official collaboration with MI.
