A titanic intellect, he will be missed.

Overall a fine remembrance piece, but weird that Woit insists on rehashing his tired arguments against naturalness at the end. There’s such a trivial counterargument to Woit’s objection that any number is as reasonable as any other (which is, there’s no way to define a uniform distribution over the entire real number line). Let the great man have some glory without bringing up old and silly disagreements.

I just started re-reading "The First Three Minutes".

Dr. Weinberg had a gift for taking incredibly complex and esoteric science and not only making it accessible, but making it a compelling story.

Rest in Peace. Thank you for reigniting my curiosity and sense of wonder.

For an explanation of why he was so important to modern physics, https://www.scottaaronson.com/blog/?p=5566

So sad. My mom bought a used copy of The First Three Minutes years ago when I was in high school. Very readable, got me interested in physics.

Another tribute by science journalist Tom Siegfried:

Worth a black bar on the top of HN.

Is that ever done for people outside of tech?

Though I fully agree with the sentiment.
