Man finds 2.2-carat diamond for engagement ring at Arkansas state park (foxnews.com)

This is the second news story about diamond mining in Arkansas state parks I've seen in just a few days. Is Arkansas doing some sort of tourism media campaign or something? Trying to distract from the bad press of recent anti-trans laws?

It's probably the same park. Pay money, dig through dirt, keep what you find. Pretty rare to actually find one I've heard, and normally small. The 2.2-carat one there wouldn't normally be used for jewelry because it's pretty yellow. But it's a good story for the kids.

I'll say, though, there are some awesome quartz mines around the state and that's actually really fun. You can easily fill a 5 gallon bucket with a mix of super clear singles and large clusters in a few hours. Took the kids, dug in the dirt, had a great time.

I don't think there is any Arkansas agenda. It's just a story that appeals to people who dream of striking it rich one day. The same folks that vote against inheritance taxes they'll never pay because "they might". Basically Fox News readers.
