I don't get why US police use dog to catch the illegal drug. Dog is an natural animal whose behaviour we cannot reason with. It can train to sniff certain chemical, but it can also train to bark whenever police officer order to do so. It shall not be trusted for criminal investigation.

Oh and the false positive rate is so high and it's practically same with coin toss.

>But was wrong in more than 40 percent of cases. Sella, a drug detection dog in Florida, gave false alerts 53 percent of the time. Bono, a drug detection dog in Virginia, incorrectly indicated the presence of drugs 74 percent of the time.

The problem isn’t using dogs in criminal investigations. It’s just police officers engaging in plain, old-fashioned racketeering.

Otherwise why would the officers even put up with a dog that’s clearly just wasting their time and preventing them for doing their jobs? Why would they go out of their way to rig the training procedures to make their real jobs harder? Put the racketeers and perjurers behind bars where they belong and the dog reliability problem will solve itself.

This is not meant as a snarky comment but the negatives you listed are the actual reasons US police use them. It makes their jobs easier. They don't care about justice in the end.
