It'll be interesting to see how much money companies actually saved by outsourcing chip manufacturing to Taiwan etc. I'm sure this pandemic has wiped away all of those gains, but it'll be interesting to see a retrospecctive of how much they would have actually saved if the pandemic hadn't hit. I'm guessing that the savings were miniscule, but enough to make or break various CxOs careers. Outsourcing is a lifehack that looks good on paper, and gets you career advancement for implementing it, and then you get to move on to a new company and leave the company to deal with the repercussions.
