When companies ask their customers and supporters to "help your policymakers better understand" something - is that lobbying?

Microsoft/Github have a lot on the line with these policies but not all of the futures that look bad for these companies are ones that would necessarily look bad for internet users or for tech startups and the tech ecosystem as a whole.

It's easy to paint the picture of this being about defending the internet as we know it but maybe the reality is that the internet as we know it is not a good design for most people. There's apparent global consensus emerging on the idea that something needs to change (as demonstrated by the list of policies in this post) - responding to that feedback shouldn't need to look like trying to change the minds of the end-users.

Instead of trying to convince people that "over centralization isn't a bug - it's a feature", why don't we approach this as a design challenge. Disruptive innovation is, after all, the name of the game!
