Google Kills the Great Tab Suspender (zdnet.com)

Just FYI, edge supports this natively in the latest version. I've completely switched over after Google's last few rounds of questionable behavior.

Lol sure thing Bill

I know it feels weird. But M$ has been behaving more like the Google we know and love while Google had been behaving more like the M$ we hate.

This functionality should be in browsers, without any extension.

It's built into the Chromium based Edge which is actually a great browser in many other respects as well. Particularly fond of how easy it is to install any arbitrary web app as its own dock/taskbar icon at my own choosing vs the wall of prereqs [0] Chrome puts up before allowing the same.

It is in Chrome. They just do it automatically. There's an extension called Auto Tab Discard if you want manual control over when it discards them.

Suspend is different from discard.

Chrome intentionally doesn't support fine-tuning behavior, except via extensions.

Firefox does

what about listed saves of previous sessions like suspender offered?

After the HN post about this last week I switched to Auto Tab Discard [0] based on other people's suggestions and it's been perfect for my needs. I hate to lose the Great Tab Suspender if only because I liked the UI/character/branding but other than that I haven't noticed any differences or issues since moving to ATD.
