I think this was as much about the big tech companies protecting their own business models as it was about protecting the US government. Can Facebook and Twitter really afford to have half their user-base jump to a competing platform? This is an anti-competitive move if I've ever seen one.
I worry that the outright censorship going on here is going to have the opposite effect of what it intended--these platforms will continue to be echo chambers, only this time without any opposing voices to moderate the discussion.
You can't eat your cake and have it too. Why are they calling for regulation of this sector, but claiming regulation is the death of companies, in others? The hypocrisy is infuriating.
