Based on logging (pageviews I assume) of the website. And includes movies older than 2020. In the top 50 I only recogize one movie (Tenet) released 2020.
I think they're trying to indicate which films from past years are the most popular today. Presumably, ten years from now, the most popular movie from 1974, for example, could be different.
