I mean secretly, without most users knowing that the app is Chinese. ExpressVPN comes to mind. Zoom is sort of suspicious with its China-based engineering team.

I don't mean apps like WeChat which everyone knows is from China.

I think it’s worth distinguishing the CCP and ‘China’.

It’s unclear what the threshold for ‘controlled’ means.

Apple for example won’t offend the CCP because of their manufacturing dependence, and market access.

Epic is 40% owned by Tencent, which clearly gives the CCP a huge influence and a board seat, but not likely at the level of a company based in China.
