Moncef Slaoui of Operation War speed's idea of half doses is the dumbest idea EVER! Why?
1. 12M does distributed and only 4M vaccinations given. Therefore, current supply is not the issue. It's the admin process that is inconsistent across States and not supported by Federal funds, Fema or Army Reserves.
2. He is recommending a half dosage for the age group 18-54. Not states are even to that age group yet. Therefore, again, cutting dosage in half for that age group does not help current distribution issues which is primarily still to healthcare workers and those in nursing homes.
3. All Phase 3 trials were done using two full does. Therefore, without the studies, those claiming to use one shot vs two, or two half does are guessing at its potential efficacy without studies. Great...so let's waste the vaccinate and give it to more people incorrectly, so we then need to re-do the entire country. For heaven's sake...just do it right the way it is intended to be administered the first time and get your deployment processes in gear.
