Ask HN: Advice for throwing together a fake-door test?

I have a project in mind that would take a few months to build properly, but I would like to throw together a fake-door test to validate it before I put that kind of effort into it.

Has anyone done this? How did you make a decent-looking site that showed off the idea well with only a small effort?

The fastest route to a decent website is to find a nice template and customize it, or if you aren't technical enough, use wix or squarespace. Internet design has gotten boring and it takes too long to make something nice from scratch if its just going to look like everything else. Most templates I've found use jQuery, but they do work.

You could add a formspree form for people who want to be alerted when the product goes live.

Have you spoken or interacted with people who may be interested by what you're trying to make? Just regular conversations.
