Given the state of civil, religious and legal rights in 1600 and the living and working conditions of the majority of the English population, being kidnapped and forced to appear on stage would probably have appealed to many people.


Although in 1600, London residents were allowed to spend Christmas with their extended families and gather in public to celebrate. In 2020, they cannot.


From 1647 to 1660, the Puritan Parliament banned Christmas celebration.


Are you saying that people actually wanted themselves to become slaves?


If the conditions were better than that of the "free" people, then yes.

Hell actual slaves lost their longterm food and shelter prospects when they were freed and were cast out into "free" world (some did thrive though)
