Due to the telemetry I haven't bothered playing any official switch games because I'm worried about getting banned.

At this point it makes more sense to just put linux on the switch and use it as a tablet and play the games on my desktop since that's already hooked up to the living room display anyway.

You're not going to be banned for connecting your joy cons to your Linux PC. They only ban people for modding their Switch to play pirated games.
