Folks don't go for proprietary systems like Windows and MacOS because of theatrics around distributions, they just choose one of those stolid long-time favourites like Debian, Ubuntu or Mint and ignore the squabbling. Those who want to get a more hands-on experience might go for Arch, Slackware or even LFS.
