Ask HN: Why is spellcheck disabled on HN?

I'm 37 and I cannot spell. I've become better over the years but it's still a strugle. This is not a mater of effort or inteligence. There are tools in the browser that help others like me in the browser

Why does HN disable spellcheck in text fields?

Spellcheck works fine for me on HN in both Firefox and Chrome (misspelled words get underlined in red in the text box).

Interesting, not working for me on MacOS Chrome with limited plugins

Odd, it happens on my work and personal MacOS laptops

edit: Works in Safari on MacOS but not Chrome :/

Works for me. Android 9, Chrome. Also Firefox, but I did not test right now. Has worked and recently.

Spell check works fine for me with Firefox 83 on Linux.
