The vast majority of SQL is written or managed by business users. It is a good idea to let the engine optimize the code.

And it is a dsl the planner is expected to be very good. Perhaps the next version will always fix it.

It can't automagically not do stupid things if you feed it a query that will make it do stupid things. You still have to know certain things about how queries will try to fetch data.
