Desktop apps to browser makes sense as it's more platform independent and you can access them from different machines. You don't need to worry about saving your data and carryin it around on a disk.

(IDE's are one thing that I don't think are ready for the browser yet, maybe I haven't tried a decent one though).

Mobile native apps seem to be a bit smoother than web apps.



https://github.com/cdr/code-server is an interesting way of running VSCode in the browser.
