I don't remember exactly how I learned to read, but it seems very strange to me that anyone would try to teach someone to read English without teaching them the sounds that the letters make.



I am sure they have changed curriculum overs years, but I was born in 86 west coast canada.

I learned using phonics.

We have been introducing our daughter to phonics for a few months now (16 months old).

I am suprised to read in this article that it's not part of American curriculum... very strange indeed.

Every toy, video, for english alphabet we have/seen has a phonics component
