Ask HN: Best software to start my own Reddit alternative?
1 point by ShrimpTacos on May 31, 2020 | hide | past | favorite
I like the website (minus some css changes), and would like to start my own alternative, but for my smaller social audience. I've seen source code for the following:

- postmill - tildes - lobsters - reddit (don't want to use that codebase)

I've not seen HN's forum's source code.

Some focuses my site would have:

- support posting images - none or low js - secondary social network, aka no intent to scale huge like fb/twitter/reddit. HN's size counts as secondary social network for me. - majorily serverless would be a plus if possible, docker support would mean I could run on google cloud run serverlessly. - postgres preferred - longshot, but written in a faster language like crystal/swift/rust would be more than I deserve. I'll learn whatever language the best software is already written in.

Recommendations? Other software suggestions?
