Travis Scott Virtual Concert on Fortnite Breaks Record with 12M Attendees (techcrunch.com)

I’m hopeful that the virtual concert becomes much more commonplace at the end of all this. I’m a fan of tiny desk and KEXP live concerts, and think it would be great if musicians could earn money from online “live” music.

It really seems like this global health crisis has helped push this to become an accepted reality. I love it

Travis Scott is apparently a rapper, in case anyone else was wondering.

He’s known for being particularly maximalist and experimental in his videos and media presence, which HNers might find interesting from a technical perspective:

This is happening again tonight at 9PM Pacific if anyone wants to join.

Think Epic could do this in near real time with like a motion capture suit or something? That way the artist can interact with the audience more than just kinda dancing.

A very similar event was done in 2019 with Lindsey Stirling and WaveVR, so the tech is certainly there.
