The US has unemployment insurance, but it only covers job loss (the employer typically provides the paid sick leave or workers pay a company like Aflac a small premium in their paychecks to gain it.) Are you saying a Canadian worker would file to claim the EI benefit of one day at the doctor? It appears to be more of an extended illness employment insurance benefit (up to 15 weeks.)
