Funny that you should mention it. To me it looks like web development is mostly driven by fashion rather then practical choices. Also I suspect that unless something radically good comes out (I do not consider Rust, Go and likes to be the case) C and C++ will stay very active, including new development. I actually do hope that this happens but so far no real candidate.
