I would agree if it was a typical DOD cost-plus contract, but being self-funded, somebody must have some confidence in the design.

Unless the whole thing is just cover for some other dark money project.




Since 2014, Lockheed has expanded the volume of the concept by a factor of 100. So the power density is now comparable to ARC, about 0.5 MW/m^3. It won't fit in a truck, and has a power density grossly inferior to fission reactors. So, even if it "worked", it would be economically useless.


Bingo. Also, it doesn't cost release reports.
