Ask HN: How widespread is the use of steganography tools to share illegal porn?

Two friends told me that people use steganography tools like OpenPuff to hide illegal porn in seemingly innocuous images. One friend told me that ebaumsworld has archives of child pornography. After being told this, I decided to start a project that focused on detecting whether or not an image had a hidden file in it (steganalysis), and eventually seeing what that file is (as a movement to spread awareness and stop the sharing of illegal porn). Recently, another friend of mine told me the only people still doing steganography are people using botnets that do CNC commands across the internet. What does hackernews know?
