Ask HN: Nonprofit food delivery will it work?

Greetings to everyone here at HN.

I have been developing a food delivery and instacart like app ... which is open-source !

This project received a very good response on Show HN ... and it even got to the front page of HN.

My question is that ... if i make this a nonprofit project ...

Will people like it ... ?

This project needs volunteers ... will i be able to find volunteers ?

You don't have to worry about financial aspect ... i believe that we can support this project even from donations !

It takes just 10 $ per month to host your local server ! and we can recover that money from donations !

1) I would doubt the future of something that does a complex task like that without charging money. The premise is certainly simple, but the execution will no doubt be difficult.

2) Why? you are taking your time and building something valuable... why wouldn't you want to get something back in return? ...Furthermore, since you have the skills to do something difficult like this why wouldn't you apply them to something that could provide you with more money create more value in the world with?

Certain causes are certainly non-profit worthy. But this doesn't seem like it would create the most value for the world with a non-profit approach.

Churches and nonprofits around LA do it all the time. USually you have many volunteers with a few coordinators as paid staff

Are you going to do any kind of basic background check on drivers?
