Shadows on the wall -- Plato. This is a non issue with e-ink monitors. Neither side is correct. Until that day when all monitors are e-ink, I don't have to read ergonomics research to tell which is best. I just go with what my pain receptors and common sense tells me. The beaming white background of hacker news is making my head hurt and when I return to my black terminal I become aware suddenly of the rest of the room.
