I'm currently consulting for a small startup one of the two engineers in which just doesn't get why he needs to adhere to any sort of a coding standard or write tests, or just write code that doesn't make your eyes bleed. To make matters worse, the founder thinks this engineer is "very capable" and just "set in his ways". As a consultant, it's not my place to fix such issues, so I'm thinking of dropping the client in question, for the first time in my career. The project is pretty cool, and I charge a steep rate, but this is just not worth the aggravation.
