One of our clients approached us about a really slow website that they had. They were complaining about a bunch of people bouncing off and dropping off the site. They were even using paid advertisement, but Google wasn't serving their ads due to their slow load speed. In the end we made a from-scratch e-commerce engine for them, and discovered a whole bunch of information about why load speed is so important.
Here's a short snippet from the first paragraph of our article:
"If your site has load times in excess of a second, you're not achieving the conversion rate you're capable of- and that means you're leaving a lot of money on the table. There is up to a 2% drop in conversion for every additional second spent loading."
