Two days? Scheduled maintenance began at 5:45pm PT May 22nd, and it's currently 12:10pm PT May 23rd. We're hours behind (this stuff is tough), but it hasn't even been one day, let alone two.

The linked page says flickr is down for planned maintenance. There's not really anything informative/educational on the linked page. Not obviously anything that "gratifies ones intellectual curiosity" as suggested in the guidelines (https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html).

It’s been less than a day (about 19 hours). That’s longer than the 12 hour scheduled maintenance window, but not that much longer.

That's a brutally long time. My respect goes out to the Flickr engineers working 24/7 to bring it back up.

Scheduled maintenance for more than 12 hour? Sounds like something is way too wrong!

I am curious to understand what can take so much long time? and wouldn't there be a better strategy (i.e., without downtime) for maintenance?

I'm more surprised that Flickr is still running. Is there a reason to still be using Flickr? I know they allow higher-quality image uploads. Is that what keeps people in the community?
