On a more nuanced approach, it seems that we are seeing many reports of GDPR violators not being fined or them being stuck in flight for the better part of a year. In addition, FAANG and other Irish based firms are simply copying US based lobbying practices and advocating for their choice for regulators/ regulation. Without a truly independent adjudicator with some real teeth and public results, this will not change.
We can argue the lack of specificity in the GDPR, but it seems no one is taking an aggressive user focused tack that I would like to see. The current look of the wolves guarding the hen house is not comforting nor improving security (nor privacy).
