This is the point fake news takes us - so many lies it's impossible to tell what is happening (are the blackouts due to cyber attacks or economic collapse), while real people really suffer.

Is it possible to instrument the world, to publish operational metrics on an ongoing basis so we can "see" what is real and what is fake?

It might solve today's problem but would it solve tomorrow's?


BBC is quoting Maduro without endorcing what he says as facts. It actually double-quotes the word coup.

As to proliferation of "fake news", I think that the first step is to take personal responsibility and carfully curate the news sources we consume.
