2020 Ford F-Series Super Duty Debuts New 'Godzilla' 7.3-Liter V8 (foxnews.com)

I'm guessing that would beat the old Ford Triton V8 5.4 L (330 cu in) SOHC 2V V8 that is in my E-350 van. Extra power would be great, but it really needs AWD to avoid just spinning the rear wheels in mud or slush. Assuming AWD, moving the axles rearward to balance the weight would also help.

It all doesn't matter to me though, unless Ford brings back vehicles for humans. The only "van" now being sold is entirely missing the rear! It's a bare chassis, intended for building stuff like ambulances and short buses.

I'm going to have to buy a GMC Savana next time. It's the only 15-passenger van still on the market, and thus the only vehicle large enough to hold my family. It's weird and sort of scary to be down to exactly one vehicle choice.

For crying out loud, this is an engine designed to go in their medium duty trucks to replace the aging 6.8L Triton V10 engine in use there.

While it will of course be available to 'enthusiasts' in smaller trucks the reason for it to exist is to improve fuel efficiency and emissions in medium duty trucks (up to Class 5/6) and some smaller RVs, etc.

Unless you'd like to stop having construction done, food and dry goods delivered, etc. they need a modern engine in that class.

Obviously, those tasks will be done by battery-powered drones soon, perhaps starting tomorrow! :)

In all seriousness, I wonder why they didn't revise the SOHC modular series, perhaps it's a packaging issue? Is the Romeo foundry being used for these?

eh, it's a fairly predictable response from people who can't come up with anything better. In fact, I'm usually surprised when I don't see it.

Whatever. My wife's perfectly happy with her F250 with the old 7.3L Powerstroke diesel. Maybe I'll ask her what she's compensating for :-)

Gotta say, though. I'd love me one of those F150 Raptors. Yummy!

Exactly. I haul 12x24' Barn Sheds on a custom trailer, 14' tall at the peak off the ground. The aging Triton V10 let me pull these monsters at 65 mph into the wind! Its hard to find a used V10 that the owner wants to sell.

Fuel efficiency? Try 6 mpg when towing. Of course, the customer pays the gas - ha.

To see a pic of one of those barns on a trailer, look at the FAQ page on my site: ksshedbuilder.com

That fairly well sums up what I was thinking.

I am surrounded by those hulking beast vehicles and most all of them haven't seen so much as a bale of hay or 2x4 in the bed.

And, me, all I'm wanting is a decent small pickup like those tiny Datsuns and Toyotas in the `70s, but even their smallest pickups are bloated now.

You can't have small ones due to the market-distorting effects of the CAFE standard for fuel economy. Small pickups are worse than little compact sedans, but would get lumped in with them and mess up the manufacturer's average fuel economy. Large pickups are in a different category, so they don't count.

So people thinking about stuff like "Human induced climate change" are actually at fault here, causing more giant trucks to be in use. It would be good to lay off on the regulations; stuff always goes wrong.

totally! that's a useful sized pickup.

it must have been a "we'll show you!" moment after Tramp ripped on Ford for being uncool after the "tariffs bite" fiasco circa 6 months ago... speaking on compensating for small xyz's

Yea, why didn't they just round up and make an 8-liter V8...one liter for each V, to make it easy for us Americans.
