Dear HN people, I have been in tech/product lead roles for quite some time now, and I was fortunate enough to have built great teams, and create a modest success story (as the CTO, leading all things tech for a company from zero to unicorn-ish levels). This makes it convenient for me to pick my next gig, relocate to wherever we chose (of course within the frame of engineering supply-and-demand).
When it comes to the position, I think the best fit would be a tech lead role on an upscaling startup, but starting my own startup or joining a larger organization are not crossed off neither. Meaningful work is very important, but I am quite flexible when it comes to the industry, company profile, tech stack, team size etc.
I am with my wife and a one year old daughter, we are financially ok not to base our decisions on maximizing dollar value of compensation, but unfortunately not financially independent yet. We are from EU(holding dual citizenship), but no strict ties to our countries (actually strongly prefer a third country to settle in). I personally prefer an English speaking area, but any recommendation is more than welcome, we are a bit stressed about this important life decision for our daughter, and probably for us too.. Standards of living and being able to provide a good future for our kid is priority number 1,2,3... All else, we can adapt and get used to, we have done a similar move 10 years ago, worked out well, and I believe we can do the same again now.. But probably only once more, which makes the decision even harder.
