I do think the 6000 sq miles farm does not refer to the 30,000 acres farm, there is a sentence or some bridge logic missing.

Otherwise it would not go on with

"A farm that big would have different soil types [...] It would be hard [...]"

but use "has" and "is" instead of "would have".
