Tesla, an Uncomfortable Wake-Up Call for Germany (cleantechnica.com)

I've heard for years now that Ford, VW, GM have so many resources and so much cash that it would be a trivial effort for them to produce a competing product to Tesla's cars. But they haven't. And there is really nothing on the horizon by other automakers that even approaches "competitiveness".

The proof is in the pudding, and the traditional car manufacturers will be left behind if they do not start to take EV's seriously now.

This scenario always reminds me of Apple's ~$300B in cash reserves. Let's assume, which likely won't be true however I don't have experience with infrastructure scaling, that Apple Watch will take a total of $10B to develop to its "full" version and bring to full scale of expected sales. That leaves a lot of unallocated resources. In certain circumstances it does work to wait for a model to mature enough before copying/making your own version of it, leveraging your audience as a marketing channel, such as Apple did with Apple Music - and it perhaps can work with vehicles as well; it won't take a $300B injection of capital, though Apple will be sitting pretty if they make all of the right moves, I hope along side with Tesla - though Elon's "bad boy" ways are turning him from someone I have considered a great role model, into viewing him as someone who's not done enough emotional work, healing emotional wounds, and could spiral dangerously out of control if he doesn't find non-medication forms of help and practices for self-care, to gain and maintain his health; physical-mental-emotional-spiritual.

GM's Bolt EV will nip away at Tesla's bottom end. It has really good range, in a shape (hatchback) that Tesla has no intention of offering.

who is supplying batteries for Bolt?

Wow the author used the exact same data to create 2 bar charts (one horizontal and one vertical). Literally the same graph just different colors and orientations. Who thought that was good idea?
