Is Bird suggesting a pledge likely to have any impact on the other players in the sidewalk transport market?
I live in London UK. We don’t have Bird because electric scooters are illegal to use on both the sidewalk and the highway. Individuals do own and use them but a commercial service couldn’t hire them out.
On the actual pledges for dockless bikes my local council are definitely in favour of item 1 repositioning.
Item 2 usage per day I don’t know, this seems more like a rule of thumb to have 3 hires per day.
Item 3 contribute 1 USD per day seems odd. If permission depended on contribution from the companies then the council would put out a procurement exercise and see who bid highest.
As it is, the council want to see dockless hire bikes available but don’t want the sidewalks overrun. They gave the licence to Ofo not Mobike.
