I created an Android app that was released on Google Play back in 2016 and it has garnered over a million installs. I recently found that a developer from Vietnam decompiled the app, changed the name, color scheme and made a few other cosmetic layout changes then released it on the iOS App Store.
After filing a claim with Apple the offending developer maintains they have never heard of my app and that there are several differences between the two apps. I have included documents and videos comparing the two apps. I also included a screenshot of their initial app description which was a word for word copy of our description trying to prove they are just lying about having never heard of my app.
It’s been about a month now and the offending developer still maintains they didn’t copy my code and hasn’t heard of my app. Apple has now responded 2-3 times telling the developer that the issue still isn’t resolved and that they should contact me to resolve the issue. The developer continues to release cosmetic updates every few days trying to make it visually look different, but the actual functionality is still identical and is still 95% using my code.
Does anybody have any experience dealing with Apple and these kinds of copyright infringement claims? What should I expect? Will they eventually help arbitrate or do I have to try something else?
