Back to the Desktop? Web Indigestion

I encountered something that blew me away from another section of our organization. For many internal applications, they are abandoning web applications and going to Windows desktop applications using WPF.

First, they are easier to make: you don't have to deal with the annoying "web state" or lack of, and browser differences. Second, server costs were escalating. People already have a powerful computer on their desks, might as well leverage them rather than pay to add or enhance servers. Data analysis applications need a lot of horse-power.

The IT manager said Microsoft improved auto-deployment such that it's really easy & automatic for users get installs & updates. These kind of applications one wouldn't typically run on a mobile device such that being mobile-friendly is not a concern. Web is still used for mobile-centric projects.
